Free Phone Calls and Free Videoconferencing

Many of you have heard of http://skype.com/ but some of you may not have used it just yet.

If your phone bills are a bit higher than you would like them to be then I would really recommend you use Skype to help offset some of your current costs.

I don't know very many people who have successfully used Skype to completely rid themselves of their mobile phone, but I know a # of people (myself included) who have not had a landline phone for at least five years since its public launch in 8/03.

With Skype you can call from one computer to another computer (nearly anywhere in the world) for free and you can call from your computer to a mobile phone or landline for a very small per call fee.

If you have a decent headset for your computer then your calls will be as clear as your calls on Verizon (i.e. better than most mobile phones).

What you may not know is that Skype's days may be numbered.  In my opinion, there is a new sherriff in town.

Now I will tell you that Skype also has videoconferencing, but it is not as good as this other site because it is based on a P2P network.  In fact, this somewhat new site I will tell you about is as good (if not better) than Skype for making calls, but then kicks the crap out of Skype on videoconferencing.

For free videoconferencing I recommend using a site called http://www.oovoo.com/

I will blog at a later date on some of the many different uses for this site for business and politics, but for now I will just say that:

1) It is free videoconferencing without the limits of Skype's P2P network

2) You can do a videoconference with as many as six participants in real-time, face-to-face

3) You can record the video then post it

Here is a pretty good article on Oovoo:

Hope you enjoy Skype and/or Oovoo and save some $$$ in the process.
